LIBERTY -- Township police are looking for a suspect in a Saturday morning chase that ended with the vehicle entering a wooded area out of reach.
According to a police report, an officer was exiting state Route 11 onto Tibbetts Wick Road, when he noticed a dark-colored side-by-side ATV traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed, noting that there were multiple vehicles in the area and the driving was extremely reckless.
The officer began to try and catch up with the ATV and initiate a traffic stop, noting that it began to pull onto Pleasant Valley Road and continue northbound.
The report states the officer managed to stay on the ATV's heel as they approached the Oriel Rogers Road intersection, and the ATV was reaching speeds of 60 to 70 mph.
The officer continued to pursue the vehicle as it pulled into Pleasant Valley Church's parking lot, accessing an off-road trail -- forcing the officer to terminate the pursuit because his cruiser would not have been able to cross the terrain.
An officer that witnessed the traffic violations helped patrol then located the ATV traveling westbound on Smith Stewart Road, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver began to flee again.
The report states the officer did not pursue the ATV, only keeping eyes on it, but lost sight of it as it began to travel off-road again and into a wooded area.
Officers patrolled the area again, but were unable to locate the ATV.
The report states the ATV was a smaller, orange one, and was driven by a white male, and officers believe there was a female passenger in the vehicle.
Officers issued a "be on the lookout" request, but there are no leads to follow as they attempt to identify the suspect, according to the report.
