WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners are expected to pass a resolution today that will provide $306,680 to contract with Sundance Systems Inc. of Valley View, Ohio, to replace the existing computer-aided dispatch system at the county's 911 center.
With the county and several dispatch communities changing over to Sundance's CAD system, the majority of communities will be able to directly talk to each other during emergencies.
After the first year of the contract, Trumbull 911 will be responsible for maintaining the contract with Sundance Systems Inc.
Trumbull County 911 Director Tacy McDonough noted she checked with other communities that use Sundance find the Ohio-based company's customer service responsive and excellent.
She described the county contracting with Sundance would be "… the lesser of two evils" between continuing to operate with the county's current CAD vendor and contracting with a new company.
"It would be a good change to get everyone on the same page," McDonough said.
Liberty police Chief Ray Buhala said his township has been contracting with Sundance since 2017.
"The customer service is unbelievable," he said. "We've had no issues. It is both cloud- and web-based. I can log in from home if something were to happen."
Commissioner Tony Bernard noted the commissioners appreciated the work the area police and fire chiefs have done to educate them.
Buhala noted Warren is not using Sundance as its CAD provider. Girard, Liberty and Lordstown are already working with Sundance. Niles has signed to work with Sundance.
"All of your PSAPs, except for Warren, will be on one system," he said.
Commissioner Rick Hernandez said the remaining few communities that are not working with Sundance will realize it will be better for their communities to be on the same system.
Commissioner Denny Malloy said the various police and fire departments should continue meeting and holding the commissioners and other elected officials on task in providing the equipment they needed to provide safety for residents.
"We reacted really quick when you came together and put flame under the board to get things done," he said.
"Everybody working together is really the goal here," Buhala said. "There are other issues. We have good communication with Tacy (McDonough)."
The commissioners must decide how they will finance the move.
One avenue being considered is using casino funds provided by the state.
