WARREN — A city man has a warrant for his arrest after crashing a vehicle into a Planet Fitness while he and a passenger were suspected of being in a drug overdose, police said.
Planet Fitness reopened Tuesday morning.
Matthew Gilmore, 42, of Beechwood Street NE, faces charges of operating a vehicle impaired (OVI) and failure to control in Warren Municipal Court. A warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to appear for his scheduled arraignment Tuesday morning, court records show.
According to a Warren Police Department crash report, officers were dispatched to the Planet Fitness at 2073 Elm Road NE around 10 p.m. Monday after Gilmore drove straight across the parking lot, over a curb and through the exterior wall of the building at an estimated 10 mph. The vehicle continued inside and struck multiple pieces of gym equipment.
Both Gilmore and a front-seat passenger, a woman relative, were experiencing a suspected drug overdose, police said. Both were revived with Narcan and transported to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for treatment.
At the hospital, Gilmore refused a blood test. His driver’s license was suspended as a result of the incident.
This was his second DUI offense, with a previous offense in 2008, court records show.
