Warrant issued for man evading police
LIBERTY -- A warrant was issued through Girard Municipal Court for Shane Link, 31, of Youngstown, on a charge of obstructing official business Wednesday morning.
According to a police report, officers were notified by an anonymous caller Monday that Link, with whom officers are familiar, was staying in a Motel 6 hotel room, with officers also noting that he had felony warrants and a history of resisting arrest.
Two officers responded to the area, and they had a brief visual on Link before losing him on a second-floor walkway.
The report states Link looked out a window, and officers ordered him to exit the room and come downstairs, which he said he would do.
However, he was later seen running through a grass field north of the motel, and a later conversation with hotel staff revealed Link jumped from the second-story walkway to flee.
The report states officers set a perimeter until additional support arrived on scene, and Youngstown police used a drone to track Link, but he couldn't be found.
Man pleads to cocaine trafficking charges
WARREN -- Frederick J. Morgan, 33, of Adelaide Avenue SE, Warren, pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of cocaine possession, both second-degree felonies with specifications of forfeiture of money.
Morgan was arrested on the charges twice in a four-month span last year, according to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office.
On Feb. 12, 2025, members of the Warren Police Street Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at Morgan's home in which they found $2,102 in cash, firearms and drug paraphernalia, along with less than 27 grams of cocaine.
During a June 9, 2025, traffic stop, Howland police found almost 27 grams of cocaine on Morgan, who will undergo a background investigation prior to sentencing.
The cocaine possession charges would have been elevated to cocaine trafficking charges if Morgan had been found with 28 grams or more of the drug, according to the state's criminal code.
Falls fire crews battle apartment fire
NEWTON FALLS -- The Newton Falls Joint Fire District responded to an early Wednesday fire at the Newton Village Apartments, 613 Ridge Road.
Fire Chief Jim Williamson said when crews arrived at 9:50 a.m., there was smoke and fire that was confined to the kitchen of one apartment. Crews were quickly able to control the fire.
Williamson said crews were thankful the building's smoke detectors and fire alarm system alerted residents, allowing everyone to evacuate safely. He said one firefighter was injured and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. The firefighter is in stable condition.
Williamson said damage is estimated at $4,000.
The Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
