Planning commission recognizes veterans commission director

WARREN -- The Trumbull County Planning Commission has recognized Cari Delgado, director of the Trumbull County Veterans Service Commission, as the recipient of its "Something Good Initiative," honoring her advocacy and service to veterans.

Commission officials said Delgado has dedicated her life to serving veterans and their families through compassionate leadership, advocacy and a commitment to ensuring those who served our nation receive the support and resources they deserve.

A United States Navy veteran, Delgado served five years on active duty as a Hospital Corpsman and three additional years in the Naval Reserve before continuing her mission of service within Trumbull County.

Joining the Trumbull County Veterans Service Commission in 2007, Delgado became the county's first female Veterans Service Officer in 2009.

Officials said throughout her career, she has assisted countless veterans in obtaining benefits, healthcare, housing assistance and support services, particularly for those experiencing homelessness and post-traumatic stress disorder.

"Her efforts have helped veterans regain stability, dignity and hope,'' said Trumbull County Planning Commission Chairman James Davies.

In addition to her professional responsibilities, Delgado has played an important role in numerous veterans-related projects throughout the Mahoning Valley, including the Women's Veterans Bridge in Warren, the Vietnam Wall exhibit and the Trumbull County Veterans Memorial. She currently serves as Chair of the Trumbull County America 250 Celebration's Distribution of Food for Veterans in Need initiative.

"Cari has spent her career advocating for veterans facing challenges that many people never see. Her dedication has improved the lives of countless veterans and families throughout our community," Davies said.
