WHAT: Township trustee meetings July 7 and 21
PRESENT: Jeff Waldeck, Rhonda Snyder and Doug Seemann
Trustees:
• Approved work on the Sager Cemetery old stone chapel wall at $4,200 with a Department of Commerce grant of $3,000 to help cover costs.
• Discussed plans for filling and burying a time capsule at the park at the Bristol Historical Society re-enactment weekend Oct. 17. Plans are to bury it for 50 years and open it during the country's tricentennial. Seemann said Ventling Memorial suggested an urn vault as it would be water tight and a marker.
• Approved King Brothers at $3,500 for culvert replacement and installation of a new culvert on Fenton Road. The county was doing culvert work on Housel Craft Road and King Brothers had done culvert work on Cory Hunt and Mahan Denman roads.
• Heard from Paul Miller of Northeast Ohio Assisting Hands and who has a recycling business in Middlefield, who is planning a trash collection on roadsides Sept. 26 in the township as well as Bloomfield, Mesopotamia and Southington. He said the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District provides the supplies, such as picks and vests.
• Heard from residents asking trustees to hire two full-time road workers because of the amount of work, including all the snow removal during the winter months. Seasonal workers are paid $13 per hour and part-timers are paid $14 per hour.
• Announced there is a micro grant available for fire departments of up to $50,000 to be used for brush fire units.
• Heard from Seemann that he met with the county engineer's office to begin the process of surveying Sager Cemetery for new lots and sections.
• Approved lettering work on the fire truck at $3,390.
• Approved the American Red Cross using the township building for a blood drive July 31.
* Heard from Ken Weeks of the zoning commission there is a need for members on the zoning commission and zoning appeals board who are only required to be township residents. Trustees did approve Sharon Tolley for the zoning commission.

Mecca
WHAT: Township trustees July meeting
PRESENT: Tom Domes, Christen Clemson and Dan Gladd
Trustees:
• Heard from resident Debbie Hake about the problem with a fireworks display put on by a local family. Officials said the State Fire Marshal received a complaint, and the family made the decision to no longer set off the fireworks going forward, with this being their last year.
• Heard from resident Cathy Brunstetter about the Mecca Circle project asking if lights can be added to the gazebo and if local high school students who need community service hours could be contacted to volunteer their time to assist in the circle project.
• Heard from resident William Dodge of Lakeview Drive, who wanted to know if weeds could be cut along the road next to his drive because it is difficult to see when pulling out. Domes said another roadside cutting will be done.
• Reported the fire department received an emergency medical service grant for $5,834.
• Reported ditches on Geauga Portage Easterly Road will need to be dug out before the repaving project begins.
• Announced cemetery lot charges are increased from $200 to $400 for residents and from $400 to $800 for nonresidents.
• Added the Mecca Movement to the list of organizations who receive one free town hall or park pavilion rental per month.
• Reported work began this month on the Americans with Disabilities Act fishing pier at the area northeast of the causeway. Resident Gregory Chopko also said a sign would be added to that area later this year.
• Heard from Gladd there was a tree planted in the park near the pavilion and dedicated to commemorate the America250 celebration. Gladd said there was also the addition of the rock garden by the Mecca Movement, which encourages youth and township resident involvement in the community.
