Man charged in Warren murder indicted on new charge
WARREN — A city man already at the Trumbull County jail on a charge of aggravated murder for a March 31 homicide in Warren was indicted Wednesday on a charge of possession of a deadly weapon while under detention, according to a Trumbull County grand jury report.
Serroyan J. Couto, 19, is accused of having a weapon inside the jail on May 19. No further details on the case were provided.
Couto, of Perkins Drive NW, was indicted April 8 in a direct presentment to the grand jury, meaning he never appeared in Warren Municipal Court on the charge of aggravated murder with a three-year gun specification. He is accused in the March 31 shooting death of Damien Williams at a home on School Street. Prosecutors allege the crime was premeditated.
Williams was found on the floor of a School Street home with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Couto has been in jail on a $5 million bond since his arrest. He was listed as homeless in a police report, but prosecutors said he was born in New Mexico.
According to a Warren police report, officers were dispatched to School Street for gunshots. Officers entered the home and found the victim. A suspect, later identified as Couto, was found inside the home and taken into custody.
KIDNAPPING CASE
Also indicted Wednesday was Vincent Lin, 20, of Sunny Estates Drive in Niles, on charges of kidnapping, felonious assault, abduction, strangulation and misdemeanor domestic violence.
According to a police report, officers were called to a Sunny Estates Drive residence May 25 for a domestic incident, and met with a woman who was waiting outside for them.
The woman said her boyfriend, Lin, had been holding her against her will in his bedroom and when she attempted to leave, he struck her in the head with a bipedal rifle, the report states.
The woman told officers that Lin punched her in the face and arms and kicked her in the legs throughout the time with him and also strangled her with both hands, the report states.
She described the strangulation as harsh enough to make her cough blood, adding that she had been living with Lin and his family for nearly a month. The report states the woman had a bloody laceration on top of her head, where she pointed she was struck with the firearm, and she was looked over by paramedics.
Officers recovered several firearms from Lin’s room, one of which was a 3D-printed nonregistered device listed in the report as a Tizmo Concepts 3D Printed AR-15. The device was sent for examination by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
CHILD LURING CASE
A third man indicted Wednesday is accused in several child-luring incidents at a local gas station May 24.
Francisco Javier Flores, 38, no address available, is facing charges of compelling prostitution, two counts of gross sexual imposition, attempted gross sexual imposition, abduction and two counts of misdemeanor criminal child enticement.
According to a police report, two Warren officers were called Sunday to the Pit Stop One on Youngstown Road, with an employee saying two Hispanic men tried talking to a 15-year-old girl.
The report states the men offered the girl money to go with them and tried grabbing her, eventually leaving in a gray SUV. Flores was not directly named in the report, but was only named as one of the involved persons.
A second report, taken May 26, notes that a man brought his 13-year-old granddaughter to the police station in reference to a report, explaining he was told about an incident at Pit Stop over the weekend.
The man showed the officer a video circulating on social media of his granddaughter being accosted by an unknown man, mentioning officers made an arrest on the same man in a different incident.
The girl said she was visiting her aunt when she walked over to the gas station to get some snacks, explaining that a Hispanic man, later identified as Flores, followed her into the store and followed her around, according to the report.
The report states the man threw a $100 bill down to buy her stuff, but she declined the offer. The report states Flores was using an interpreter app and spoke into his phone. The teen told the officer that the man kept asking her to come to his house or into his car, which she rejected and was trying to leave.
The man said he wanted a woman to be his friend, and when she tried to leave he held out his arm and would not allow her to move, the report states. The video shows Flores leaning in to try and kiss her, and she turned her head and tried to leave, but the man kept her pinned against the wall.
The report states the man seemed to turn and the girl was able to get out of the store, but the man started to follow her. An unknown man walked outside and called her back into the store to keep her away from the guy.
Flores has been in the jail with no bond since his arrest, court records show.
