Man charged after toddler found roaming

WARREN — A Warren man is facing a charge after a small child was found roaming a nearby road Monday afternoon.

Matthew Snyder, 39, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a charge of child endangerment in front of Warren Municipal Court Judge Patricia Knepp.

According to a police report, officers were called to the area of Elm Road NE for a young child running in the road, who a witness said she saw while on her way to work. The witness said the child was near and in the road, and noted she didn’t see a parent with the child, so she turned around and got the unclothed, but diapered, child into the car. Officers noted in the police report that the child’s diaper was full.

The report states officers attempted to locate the child’s parents but could not, so they called Trumbull County Children Services.

A resident hanging around outside directed officers to a Sheridan Avenue residence, where they made contact with Snyder, who confirmed that he was the father and said he was sleeping when his daughter must have left the house, according to the police report.

However, the report states the officer spoke with the grandfather at the residence, who said Snyder had been at the store and left the children home.

The report states the incident wasn’t the first time Snyder’s children have escaped the home without supervision and run in the road, with the officer noting two previous instances, according to previous calls.

Snyder was released on a $10,000 bond, and he’s set to appear back in court July 16, court records show.

Starting at $3.85/week.
