LIBERTY -- Community improvements have quite literally been front and center for anyone navigating the Churchill portion of Belmont Avenue, and trustees learned the status of these and other ongoing improvements.
At Monday's meeting, trustees heard from Road Superintendent Wayne Hickman, who said the "never-ending" Belmont Avenue sidewalk project, which kicked off March 30, is undergoing some design changes.
"We changed the design at the corner of (State Route) 304, (State Route) 193 to go behind the telephone poles; that's why it's been sitting stagnant," Hickman said. "Our engineer is designing something now; ODOT is going to review it, but they haven't dragged their feet on permitting and reviews."
Hickman said the job will be finished as soon as the design engineer receives that clearance, which he said the engineer expects to happen.
Regarding the Center Park project, for which the township received a $450,000 American Rescue Plan grant and started work Feb. 9, Hickman said he had no real updates, but they are waiting on a fence estimate.
"I did get the punch list completed by the contractor; they do want the retainage paid out, but I'm waiting to see that fence estimate first," Hickman said.
Hickman said the Ohio Public Works Commission's 2026 paving project has a signed contract with R.T. Vernal Paving & Excavating, and OPWC knows to proceed -- it is just waiting on a contractor to schedule the project.
Hickman noted the township is the second one in Trumbull County to have an executed contract with R.T. Vernal to schedule, so they're in "good shape."
Regarding the state Route 193 paving project, Hickman said it's ongoing and half done.
"You can see we got one center lane done, and one lane done, and they got plenty more to do," Hickman said. "It's going to be ongoing, with the heat, the traffic."
