WARREN -- Trumbull County Commissioners during their Wednesday meeting approved using $1,955,000 in Trumbull Senior Levy funding to provide services to the county's senior residents.
The county's senior levy board provided recommendations to the commissioners on how the money should be allocated among organizations that submitted bids for service contracts.
Direction Home of Eastern Ohio in Youngstown was awarded $135,000 per year to provide ombudsman services for seniors. Guardianship and Protective Services Inc. of Mineral Ridge received a $135,000 per year contract.
Four companies were awarded contracts to provide in-home services. Country Neighbor Program Inc. of Orwell was awarded $40,000; Mirkin & Associates/Comfort Keepers of Austintown was awarded $262,500; CareBuilders at Home of Lake Success, New York, was awarded $362,500 per year for homemaker and personal care; and Cornerstone Caregiving East LLC of Waco, Texas, was awarded $100,000 per year for providing homemaker and personal care.
Two companies will receive up to $200,000 per year for two years for providing adult day services. Antonine Sisters Adult Day Care Inc. of North Jackson was awarded $150,000 per year for Adult DayCare and Adult DayCare Transportation. The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation of Youngstown was awarded $50,000 per year for adult day care and transportation.
Three companies received contracts to provide home delivered meals through September 2028. They are Country Neighbor Program Inc of Orwell, $96,660 per year; Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, $281,810 per year; and Trumbull Mobile Meals, $331,530 per year.
Liberty received a two-year $5,000 per year mini-grant for its Senior Watch program. Mercy Health-Youngstown's St. Joe's At the Mall in Niles was awarded $5,000 per year for two years to provide Parkinson's balance exercise classes.
In other action Wednesday, commissioners:
• Approved a $36,160 professional service agreement with Euthenics Inc. of Cleveland to provide engineering services for the load rate of 20 bridges for the VAR-Trumbull County bridge load rating project. The agreement will be paid for with funds from the Trumbull County Engineer's Office.
• Approved a $46,650 professional services agreement with American Structurepoint Inc. of Cleveland to determine the load rating of 19 bridges for the VAR-Trumbull County Bridge load rating project. It will be paid for from the County Engineer Fund.
• Approved a $190,512.68 professional services agreement with GAI Consultants Inc. of North Canton for plan review related to all Ohio Future Fund state Route 45 New Access Road Project in Howland and Warren townships. It will be funded through the sub-recipient grant agreement between Trumbull County and the Western Reserve Port Authority using Ohio Department of Development All Ohio Future Funds.
• Approved a $8,640 professional services agreement with Thomas Fok & Associates Inc. of Youngstown for services related to the 2027 District 6 Public Works Integrating Committee pre-application. It will be paid for from the County Engineer Fund.
• Approved an amendment increasing the mileage rate to 76 cents per mile for all business miles.
• Approved a technical service agreement with Environmental Design Group Inc. of Akron for $466,050 for work on the Williams Drive Water Improvement Project in Bazetta.
• Approved closing Braceville Robinson Road in Braceville from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 15 for the Braceville Community Foundation 5K run.
• Approved granting Brightspeed of Ohio Inc., of Charlotte, North Carolina, 17 permits for the installation of fiber optic lines through various locations in the county.
• Approved the hiring of Beth Lewis and Alexandra Heber as establishment specialists with the Child Support Enforcement Agency at a beginning salary of $17.83 per hour.
• Approved the hiring of Lila Burrows to be a full-time 911 dispatcher at $20 per hour.
