Warren mayor urges residents to mentor youth amid violence

WARREN — Mayor Doug Franklin is urging residents to step forward as mentors for high-risk youth through a new program aimed at curbing violence and supporting young people in the city.

The initiative, called Credible Messengers, would pair at-risk youth with trusted adults who can offer guidance based on their own life experiences.

It is a collaboration with the RCF Family Life Center, according to a statement from the mayor’s office. “Like many of you, I have been deeply concerned by the recent acts of violence that have impacted families throughout our city,” Franklin said. “I have heard your questions: What is being done? How can I help? I want you to know that meaningful efforts are underway, and our city is committed to being part of the solution.”

The program seeks men and women willing to serve as mentors, investing time to build relationships with referred youth. Participants would commit to one to two hours per week providing stability, encouragement and guidance.

Franklin highlighted Warren’s history of community resilience that generations of young people have grown up in its neighborhoods and schools to become productive citizens.

He called on residents to help “create the village of support that every young person deserves.

“Those interested in becoming a Credible Messenger can contact the mayor’s office at 330-841-2602.

Franklin thanked residents for their ongoing commitment to the city’s youth and safety.

Starting at $3.23/week.
