WHAT: Board of education meeting Wednesday
PRESENT: Terry Kelly, Megan Gibbs, Elizabeth Dunn, LeeAn Westenfelder and Steve Gilanyi
The board:
• Heard from Westenfelder that the Southington Community Trust has Petrosky Brothers making repairs in the basement at the historic Chalker Building, which had flooding.
• Approved James Wolke as dean of students on a one-year contract at $29,000 for four hours per school day. Wolke had resigned as physical education teacher on May 29.
• Set athletic participation fee at $50 per athlete for the 2026-27 school year. Fees are due prior to the first game of the year.
• Recognized recent graduate Abigayle Grimm with the “Award of Excellence” and 2026 graduate Olivia Hendricks with the “Mary Herner Leadership Award” in memory of Herner who was a 28-year school board member.
• Approved an agreement with Portage Therapy Services to provide occupational therapy and a therapy assistant at $70 per hour for OT services.
• Approved sixth grade students to attend Camp Fitch Sept. 9-11 in North Springfield, Pa.
• Approved use of the Chalker Building by the trust committee June 27 and July 25 for opening the building.
• Approved use of the football field and grounds by the Little Wildcats football for practice and games July 1 through October.
• Approved a two-year contract with Becky Clark, assistant treasurer, effective July 1 and a one-year limited contact for Zachary Baciu as school psychologist
• Approved Pete Kalan as a half-day science teacher.
