WHAT: Township trustees meeting June 16

PRESENT: Doug Emerine, Tom Jeffers and Rick York

Trustees:

• Accepted the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant of $673,877 for the fire department to hire three full-time firefighter/paramedics to improve emergency response times and strengthen community safety. Fire Chief Tom Dempsey has said the total grant program is more than $1,092,774 for the costs of the three firefighters. The federal grant contribution is $673,877 with the township’s share being $418,894 over the three years. He said the firefighters will be hired this year. Emerine said interviews to fill the three positions will be taking place.

• Discussed future plans for replacing a fire tanker and medic vehicle and getting new apparatus bay heaters for the fire department. Passage of a 2.65-mill, five-year additional levy on the May 5 primary ballot will provide the funding.

• Approved maintenance service contract with Stryker for work on the ambulance power cots.

• Are having work done on the fire department roof at $22,000.

• Scheduled a meeting for 2 p.m. Thursday with the Ohio Patrolman Benevolent Association for contract negotiations.

• Hired Terry Forster Jr. as a part-time cemetery worker at a rate of $14 per hour.

• Approved the facility-use request of township property off state Route 45 for use by the Champion Youth Soccer League for games.

• Approved membership dues of $748 for the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber.

Trumbull County

WHAT: Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities board meeting Monday

PRESENT: Tim Calderone, Mauro DiVieste, Jodi Glasser, Kim Hynes and Larry Larson

ABSENT: Melissa Baker

The board:

• Approved a 4% pay increase for all non-bargaining unit employees effective July 1, excluding the superintendent. Chad Hamm, business manager for TCBDD, said there are 84 management employees with the raises costing $168,781 for the year.

• Hired Solomon Cleary as a service and support administrator effective May 4 to fill a vacancy created by Ashlinacrae Kyle, and hired Kary Cottrell, who transferred to the service and support administrator / assessment specialist position effective June 8.

• Accepted the retirements of Michael Ciferno as a mechanic, Kathy Fleming and Cheryl Vanatsky as teachers, and Robin McCall as custodian.
