WHAT: Board of education meeting May 18
PRESENT: Aaron Abrahamson, Marie Downs, Patrica Fisher, David Mahan and John Pitts
The board:
• Approved a memorandum of understanding for a contract extension with the Champion School Support Association from July 1 to June 30, 2027. The association, which represents bus drivers, secretaries, custodial staff, cafeteria staff and maintenance personnel, will receive a 50 cent per hour pay increase.
• Approved a five-year administrative contract for Superintendent John Grabowski from August 2027 to July 2032.
• Hired Dalton Stoops as middle and high school music teacher, Cathleen Herberger as high school science teacher and Matthew Biery as elementary intervention specialist, all on one-year contracts.
• Approved Stoops and middle and high school band director Derrick Kittle as co-directors of the concert band, jazz ensemble and pep band, with Stoops to also be vocal music director and assistant marching band director.
• Recognized retiring staff members Tim Cope, athletic director; Beth Nicholas and Barbara Martini, teachers; Jackie Rasile, middle school guidance counselor; and Lynda Norton, superintendent’s administrative assistant.
• Named Mindy Abrahamson as administrative assistant to the superintendent, effective July 1, replacing Lynda Norton, who is retiring after 27 years with the school district effective July 1.
• Named Denise Warrix as elementary school secretary effective for the new school year, replacing Mindy Abrahamson.
• Recognized the middle school student council for winning $3,000 from the Novelis recycling program.
• Accepted the resignation of Ashely Conrad as elementary intervention specialist.
• Rescheduled the next meeting for 5 p.m. June 29 for end-of-year financial matters and preparing for the new school year with the first day for students Aug. 19.
