New shelter’s opening date set
Staff report
WARREN — An opening date has been set for The Healthy Hearts & Paws Project’s upgraded animal shelter, aimed at providing support for Trumbull County’s dogs.
Jason Cooke, the organization’s president and CEO, said in a Facebook post that the new shelter is set to open up Oct. 10.
The 4,200 square-foot building will feature three large, indoor play areas with dog baths and training and enrichment equipment, 12 extra-large kennels with individual drains and eight indoor and outdoor runs, as well as a spacious area for smaller dogs and puppies with separate HVAC and 10 fenced-in outdoor play areas.
There will also be direct access to 42 acres of woods and walking trails, according to Cooke.
The upgraded shelter will have a 1,200-square-foot addition to Bootsie’s Bungalow, the shelter’s dedicated cat shelter and adoption facility and a 2,500-square-foot low- to no-cost vet clinic.
The facility will also have a 7,500 square-foot humane building and a thrift store in the works, as well as a 7,000 square-foot parking lot and a second driveway.
