Four enter pleas, three more sentenced in various court cases
WARREN — Four people pleaded guilty and three others were sentenced in felony cases in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court over the past week.
• Gabriel Lofton, 37, Ward Street NW, Warren, was sentenced by Judge Sarah T. Kovoor to three years in prison after being convicted of one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony, for possessing 21 grams of methamphetamine. The judge noted that Lofton has five previous criminal convictions resulting in prison sentences.
“Unless you’ve been in prison for almost all of your adult life, you’ve been out committing crimes,” Kovoor told Lofton.
• Demitris Fisher, 19, of Hillsdale NW, Warren, received a 12-month prison sentence from Judge Sean O’Brien after pleading guilty to a fourth-degree domestic violence charge. Fisher was charged with kicking the head and body of a woman — bruising and cutting her — in an incident investigated by Warren police on March 28. Court records show Fisher had a previous domestic violence charge.
• Timmy Hayes, 51, of North Hartford Avenue, Youngstown, received three years’ probation from O’Brien after being convicted on April 16 of four counts of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, fourth-degree felonies. In the case of disseminating child pornography, Hayes — who has a history of mental health issues — avoided prison because he had no previous criminal record, according to court officials.
• Damon LaRiche, 43, of Tod Avenue SW, Warren, pleaded guilty before Kovoor to second-degree felonies of attempted kidnapping and felonious assault. The case involved a March 13 incident with his wife where he punched her in the arm after accusing her of cheating.
He then pulled a knife on her and kept her in the room against her will, according to court records. When police officers arrived, prosecutors stated, LaRiche barricaded the door to prevent them from coming in. LaRiche, who faces a maximum 16- to 20-year prison sentence, will undergo a background investigation prior to sentencing.
• Brian Williamson, 23, of Randolph Street NW, Warren, pleaded guilty to a second-degree felony charge of felonious assault before Kovoor. Williamson, who could face a prison sentence ranging from two to 12 years, will be sentenced after undergoing a background investigation.
The case involved an Aug. 11 bar fight at Kracker Jacks in Warren in which the male victim was kicked several times. The Cortland man had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter because he suffered a severe brain bleed, court records show.
The victim’s vehicle was found running in the parking lot with its door open when police arrived, a police report states. As part of the plea deal, Williamson agreed to pay for the victim’s medical bills, prosecutors said.
• Krystal Hewis, 41, of Hill Drive, West Farmington, pleaded guilty before Kovoor to a count of attempted felonious assault, two counts of assault, and count each of felony domestic violence and misdemeanor resisting arrest. The case involved Trumbull County Sheriff deputies responding to a domestic incident Jan. 30 at Hewis’ home. The sheriff’s office report states Hewis assaulted her live-in boyfriend with a frying pan.
When deputies arrived on scene, Hewis assaulted one deputy and also struck a corrections officer as she was taken to jail. The defendant has a previous domestic violence conviction from February 2024 in Newton falls, prosecutors stated. The plea deal offset a jury trial that was scheduled to begin Monday.
• Eddie Hernandez, 62, Catherine Street, Liberty, pleaded guilty before O’Brien to five felony counts dealing with a 2024 drug investigation conducted by Liberty police and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Hernandez pleaded guilty to fourth- and fifth-degree trafficking in cocaine counts, two counts of fifth-degree possessing cocaine felonies and a third-degree felony of tampering with evidence.
The case involved two instances in the summer of 2024 where Hernandez sold confidential informants various amounts of cocaine. Two traffic stops in 2025 also found Hernandez in possession of the drug, one of which the defendant tried to hide the substance, prosecutors stated.
Hernandez’s sentence will run at the same time to a 12-month term Hernandez received in March from Kovoor for a theft from Sunbelt Rentals in Bazetta.
