Farmington residents evacuated amid gas leak
WEST FARMINGTON — Residents from 10 homes along South Park Drive in the village were evacuated for two hours on late Friday afternoon after a crude oil well ruptured.
Fire Chief Jonathan Bland said there were no injuries and no one was reported sick after the 4 p.m. rupture. He said what caused the well to rupture is being investigated by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Oil and Gas.
Bland said there was windy weather at the time of the rupture.
Residents told safety crews that they heard a loud boom Friday and could see gas spewing into the area. Because of the wind, debris landed on other properties, covering yards and leaving a smell.
