Trustees ready public survey

Comprehensive plan will be focus

WARREN TOWNSHIP — A resident survey is expected soon as township officials work to update the comprehensive plan.

Trustee Tyler Wilson said at this week’s trustees meeting that the goal is to have the survey ready by late May

Wilson said they have received input from members of the Trumbull County Planning Commission in guiding them on updating and modernizing the current plan. The planning commission has assisted several communities in updating their plans, including Mecca, Liberty and Warren city.

“Right now we are finalizing the questions in the survey to help when the plan gets updated,” Wilson said.

Wilson said the survey will focus on what residents want the township to be and about the use of available land in the next 10 to 20 years.

Wilson, who also serves as the zoning inspector, mentioned that properties with high grass are being addressed.

He said residents will receive a notice and be given 10 days to cut lawns or the township will cut them and assess the costs on the property owners’ taxes.

Also, resident Darryl Parker, a member of the township zoning board, said citations are being sent out by the zoning department for properties and homes that are not being maintained.

He said residents will receive two warnings to upgrade properties that are in violation of zoning codes or have other problems.

“Many people drive through the township, and we want it to look nice,” Parker said.

He also said he is seeing if local Scouting groups would be interested in creating “Welcome to Warren Township” signs to be posted at entry points to the township.

Parker said with Kimberly-Clark coming to the community, it is important it looks its best.

Also, road supervisor David King said he spoke with Bill Whetstone, a former township firefighter from the 1970s currently in hospice care, who had one of the township fire trucks brought to him to see.

“We drove one of the fire trucks to where he is so he could see it.,” King said. “We also showed him older pictures from the 1970s, and he remembered people in them.”
