WHAT: Board of Education meeting

PRESENT: David Malone, Janine Hamilton, Adam Earnhardt, Hans Kirr and John Simon

The board:

• Approved an agreement with Debra Mettee to serve as a professional consultant for the Board of Education, superintendent and treasurer on an as-needed basis for the 2026-2027 academic year.

• Approved an additional service agreement with the governing board of the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio (ESC) from March 1, 2026, through June 30, 2026, to provide participation for Liberty students in an ESC Emotional Disturbance classroom per their IEP, at a cost determined by an annual true-up plus a 5% administrative fee.

• Passed a resolution authorizing a cooperative transportation agreement with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center and Community Bus Services, Inc. for the transportation of disabled students attending out-of-district cooperative special education classrooms, effective July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.

• Accepted the retirement resignations of teachers Christin White after 34 years of service and Donna Stuber after 37 years of service, both effective June 30, 2026, with their last days worked on May 29, 2026.

• Granted one-year limited teaching contracts for the 2026-2027 school year to 35 licensed teachers, contingent upon valid licensing.

• Granted continuing contracts to William Dawson, maintenance, and Michael Pollifrone, custodial, effective July 1, 2026.

• Hired Jonette Wilson as a classified nonemployee substitute for food service/nutrition support at a rate of $38.63 per hour, beginning August 21, 2026.

• Accepted a $1,091 donation from DonorsChoose for purchasing books, flexible seating, classroom basics and more.

• Accepted a $207 donation of a white golf visor, sport sunglasses, a TaylorMade Visor, a club cleaner, a golf towel, tees, a training aid, a three-pack of TP5 golf balls and a mini-speaker from Ezee Aim Golf to the golf team.

• Accepted an $80 donation of assorted golf balls, tees, ball markers and golf trading cards from Larry Womack Golf to the golf team.

• Accepted a $160 donation of a Good Good Golf quarter zip, two pairs of signed sunglasses and two signed golf trading cards from PGA Pro Joel Dahmen to the golf team.

• Accepted a $110 donation of a golf hat, golf towel and golf glove from Bad Birdie Golf to the golf team.

• Accepted a $15 donation of golf tees and assorted stickers from Cobra Golf to the golf team.

• Accepted an $8 donation of assorted stickers and ball markers from Primo Golf to the golf team.

• Accepted a $155 donation from The Liberty Sports Hall of Fame/Liberty Leopard Alumni Association for school clubs.

• Accepted a $100 donation from Hill, Barth & King LLC for the Challenge 24 club.

WHAT: Board of education meeting May 18

PRESENT: Anna Martin, William Cummings, Josh Barr, Donald Newell and Amanda O’Neill

The board:

• Accepted the following donations: $10,000 to the high school band brass instrument purchasing plan from the Hubbard Band Sponsors; $4,287 to the high school’s greenhouse from the Class of 2025; an anonymous $400 to the middle school choir; $250 to the middle school principal’s fund from Simco; $233 to the drama club for popcorn from Jason Yohman; $41 to the John Luteran Scholarship Fund from Francine Health; an anonymous $20 to the drama club.

• Approved converting the fiscal year 2025 advance, in the amount of $54,333.79 from the general fund to the athletic department, to a transfer for fiscal year 2026.

• Approved the TCESC 2025-2026 Certified and Classified Substitute Lists as updated and submitted.

• Approved the 2025-2026 HEVSD Classified Substitute List at the board-approved classified substitute rates, pending successful background checks and required certifications, as updated and submitted: Kendall Summerfield, cleaner, effective April 20.

• Approved entering into a cooperative transportation agreement with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center and Community Bus Services Inc. as submitted.

• Approved requested FMLA leave for Michelle Hardman, teacher.

• Approved $1,000 payments to Anna Badurik, Diana Barnett, Shannon Berkebile, Laura McCleery and Christopher Moriarty and a $2,000 payment to Kimberly Bodak as lead mentor and as mentors for the 2025-2026 school year.

• Approved nonrenewing 45 high school club supplemental advisers at the end of the 2025-26 school year.

• Approved nonrenewing 12 middle school supplemental advisers for the 2025-26 school year.

• Approved nonrenewing three elementary school supplemental advisers for the 2025-26 school year.

• Approved a $650 stipend to 14 staff members for 2025-26 caseload documentation, to be paid from IDEA-B funds.

• Approved a one-time stipend of $325 for Mary Sainato for 2025-26 caseload documentation, to be paid from IDEA-B funds.

• Granted Mason Porrazzo senior privilege to complete his senior year at Hubbard High School and graduate with the class of 2027.

• Approved a one-year limited contract to Brianna Scarmack, grade 4 teacher, BA Step 0, effective for the 2026-27 school year.

• Approved a one-year limited contract to Abbey Johns, grade 4 teacher, BA Step 0, effective for the 2026-27 school year.

• Approved a one-year limited contract to Spencer Gavalier, intervention specialist, BA Step 0, effective for the 2026-27 school year.

• Approved a bus lease agreement between the district and Southside Academy for student transportation on April 29.

• Approved limited contract status for 13 elementary school and middle school employees and 20 high school employees for the 2026-27 school year.

• Approved Kristen Chufo’s continuing contract status for the 2026-27 school year.

• Approved two-year limited contracts for 29 employees for the 2026-27 school year.

• Approved Alissa Peterella and Lee Ann Wilson for continuing contract status for the 2026-27 school year.

• Approved Mary Mathews-Bebech for the Hubbard High School Home Instruction Tutor, 10th-grade student, for five hours a week.

• Approved Shannon Seese for the Hubbard High School Home Instruction Tutor, 10th-grade student, for five hours per week.

• Re-appointed John Clemente to the Hubbard Parks and Recreation Board for a five-year term, beginning Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2031.
