WHAT: Township trustee meetings May 5 and 19

PRESENT: Todd Garland, Jeff Tucker and Dennis Kuchta

Trustees:

• Approved placing three renewal levies on the November ballot. The levies are each 1-mill for fire, police and roads, with each generating $64,573 per year. Fiscal Officer Tom Shay each levy will cost the owner of a $100,000 home $26 per year per levy.

• Voted to show its support for keeping the historic log cabin located on Nelson Moser Road in the township.The cabin is owned by the Trumbull County MetroParks. Officials said the Braceville Historical Society wants to see the cabin stay in the township. The metroparks are seeking quotes for the cabin.

• Will speak with Newton Township trustees on jointly seeking funds for improvements to Hewitt Gifford Road, which is located in both townships.

• Purchased ammunition for the police department from the Armory at $2,197.

• Approved Nathan Morris as a cadet firefighter and Kaitlyn Johnson and Keegan Pownell as volunteer firefighters.

• Approved a new cybersecurity plan.

• Will have township trucks washed at the county’s truck wash.

• Declared property at 1059 Braceville Robinson Road for demolition and removal of junk vehicles.

Niles

WHAT: City council meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Jimmy Julian, Michael Lastic, Ed Stredney, Todd Weddell, Aaron Johnstone, James Sheely and Frank Leskovec

Council:

• Passed an ordinance amending the Niles Zoning Code.

• Passed an ordinance updating City of Niles permit fees and Niles Fire Code fee schedule and creating Niles Codified Ordinances 171 and 172 for each fee schedule, respectively.

• Passed a resolution authorizing the City of Niles to proceed with the demolition of an unsafe structure located at 5150 Youngstown Warren Road, and to request the assistance and cooperation of the Trumbull County Land Reutilization Corporation.

• Passed an ordinance approving a “then and now” payment request for American Municipal Power (AMP) for legal fees related to loan agreement documents.

• Passed an ordinance authorizing monthly cash transfers.
