WHAT: Board of education meeting March 26
PRESENT: Vincent Ragozine, Joe Castor, Scott Strain, Tammy King and Zachary Steiner
The board:
• Received a $10,000 donation from the Cafaro Foundation in recognition of the high school cheerleaders winning the state championship.
• Received a reupholstered weight bench and lat pulldown equipment at $1,650 from Soft Touch Furniture.
• Accepted the retirement resignation of Rene Esposito, effective June 30, as an instructional aide after 16 years.
• Approved the high school robotics team to compete at the Smoky Mountain Regional from March 18 to 21 and Miami Valley Regional from April 1 to 4.
• Approved the National Inventors Hall of Fame Camp Invention from June 29 to July 2 for children in grades K-5 at Prospect School.
• Approved an agreement with Frontline Education for absence and substitute management at $12,081, with a one-time implementation fee of $5,040.
• Approved a one-year agreement with Orkin for pest control of insects and rodents for school district locations and board offices.
• Approved a NEOMIN Internet service contact for the Girard Stadium at $4,752 and for the board offices at $6,816.
Fowler
WHAT: Township trustee meeting Monday
PRESENT: Jeff Davis, Lynn Michalec and Todd Williams
Trustees:
• Approved Erik Lysasz as emergency medical service administrator with a rate of $100 per month.
• Approved hiring Mace Lumpp as part-time road department assistant at 30 hours per week at a rate of $15 per hour.
• Approved payment to Cortland for two medic assists in February for $570.
• Approved payment of $483 to Lifeforce for February emergency medical service billing.
• Approved annual payment to Sedgwick, a claims management service, for $1,020.
• Approved the purchase of a 2016 firetruck approved by the trustees at the March 27 special meeting for the price of $350,000. The truck will be available in September.
Southington
WHAT: Township trustees February and March meetings
PRESENT: Charles Hagman, Cindy Speaker and Chuck Vanek
Trustees:
• Named Speaker as chairwoman and Vanek as vice chairman for 2026.
• Approved Brendan Keating and Tonya Rogers as township legal counsels on an as-needed basis to replace Cherry Poteet, who is cutting back on hours with plans to retire.
• Met with the county engineer officials regarding salt for roads as the township looks to have their own salt dome to store salt. Many communities used more salt this winter due to icy and snowy road conditions.
• Received a Go Green scrap tire grant from the Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste District.
• Heard from Vanek that STG Co. will design the township’s new website, which will include a calendar.
• Will look at and replace the fire department’s septic system.
• Heard from resident Don Strock who announced upcoming events planned this year and is looking for someone or an organization to take over planning the events such as Back to School giveaway, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 8; Halloween, 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31; and Christmas tree lighting, 6 p.m. Dec. 5. He asked if trustees can provide $200 per event.
• Rehired Bruce Mollohan as road supervisor at $26.50 per hour and cemetery sexton at $1,500 per year and Jacob Bradley as road worker at $21 per hour. Part-time seasonal workers will work on roads and cemeteries at minimum wage.
• Rehired Al Haberstroh as zoning inspector at $525 per month and rehired Scott Bower as fire chief at $24,000 per year.
• Re-apppointed Lori Mills to the water board for a three-year term through 2028; Bob Rhodes to the zoning board of appeals for five-year term through 2030; and Alexois Dittrich to the zoning commission board for five-year term through 2030.
• Heard from Alexis Dittrich and other members of the zoning boards that there are openings on the zoning commission. Zoning members want to have zoning resolutions put online on a website for the public to see.
• Will have the condition of Anderson Anthony Road checked to see if grindings need to be put in. The road had previously been chipped and sealed.
• Approved $15,000 annual maintenance expenses to the fire department.
• Set spring cleanup for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 2 with Wolford’s by the township hall.
• Reported the township hall project is completed with new carpeting, new windows and interior painting.
• Have set meetings for 6 p.m. the second Thursday of the month.
