Bristol officials address storm damage

BRISTOL — Township officials are addressing damage from a severe thunderstorm that passed through the township last week.

Fire Chief Steve Craiger said the storm on April 15 damaged the roof and siding at the fire station. Officials said the storm included heavy rainfall, strong winds and large, golf ball-size hail.

Officials said other damage from the storm included two chapels at Sager Cemetery and one chapel at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mary Ann Raidel of the Bristol Historical Society said large hail hit the glass of the historic doctor’s office and barbershop.

Trustee Chairman Doug Seemann said an insurance adjuster is looking over the damage.

In other business, as plans continue for the America250 celebration noon to 2 p.m. July 4, Raidel said a time capsule will be buried and take place at the park, where more people will be present.

“It will be an exciting day for all of us,” Raidel said.

She said a fundraiser dinner will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at township hall to raise funds for prizes for the 250th anniversary drawing, poetry and essay contest for Bristol students.

Raidel said there are also plans for dedication of the historic 1863 Civil War marker at the township center Oct. 17. She said the marker is scheduled for restoration work in late July.

In other business, trustees:
