WHAT: Board of education meeting March 9

PRESENT: Tim Gibson, Karen Ancell, Brad Gamlin, Russell Sewell and Julia Shutt

The board:

• Approved a contract with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center at $1.55 million to be deducted from the district’s state foundation payments for additional shared services and programs.

• Accepted the retirement of Martin Kelly, school principal, effective June 30, and retirement of Terri Gorrell, a classified employee, effective Feb. 23.

• Approved an electricity purchasing agreement with the Ohio School Council, which will seek proposals for an energy provider for the school district.

• Approved renaming of the Franks Hillman Scholarship Fund to the Franks-Hillman-Frederick Memorial Scholarship Fund.

WHAT: Board of education meeting March 11

PRESENT: Don Mickel, Jared Bilas, Brooke Vondrasek, Kristina Stephens and Candy Bemus

The board:

• Approved a Career Navigator Services agreement with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center effective for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years at $11,985 per school year. The program provides career planning assistance and exploration services to students in the district. The program is already in place for the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio, and now the TCESC is putting one in place.

• Hired Kadence Diemer as a part-time educational assistant effective Feb.19 at $7,229 for 6.5 hours per day for 74 days as part of an agreement with Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities/Fairhaven School for support services.

• Approved a $210 donation from the Bristol Farmington Baseball/Softball Association for reimbursement for the painting of the concession stand building.

WHAT: Board of education meeting March 11

PRESENT: Cheryl Kistler, Niki Reid, William Catlin, Rebekkah Conn and Michelle Wells

The board:

• Recognized ninth grader Gannon Force at the high school in February on scoring 1,000 career points in basketball.

• Entered into an agreement with the Ohio Schools Council for the electricity purchase program.

• Approved a stipend of $2,500 to Lauren DeJulio to help assist with Education Management Information System for the rest of the school year.

• Approved fifth-grade teacher Tiffany Davis for sick leave for up to six weeks effective March 30.

WHAT: Village council meeting Monday

PRESENT: Jessica Blank. Jamie Moseley, Robert Bond, Lamar Liming, Mark McGrail, Ron Radtka and Mayor Jackie Woodward

Council:

• Accepted the resignation of Charles Mendenhall as a police officer.

• Heard from Road Supervisor Martin Nelder that streetlights are being updated with LED lighting.

• Heard from Leon Robinson III of Lorain from Fresh Money Enterprises interested in being in the community and partnering with the local school district for STEM programs and pathways for young people.

• Announced an Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. March 28 at the village administration building for children 12 and younger.

• Announced a community picnic May 16 at the park off Salt Springs Road. Council approved $2,000 for the picnic.

• Announced scrap tire collection June 8 to 15 with a limit of eight tires per household. Officials said there may also be a countywide collection.

• Announced veterans banner program orders will be taken through April 24 with banners to be placed on poles for Memorial Day.

WHAT: Township trustees meeting March 2

PRESENT: Jeff Davis, Lynn Michalec and Todd Williams

Trustees:

• Approved the purchase of 22 new American flags for Memorial Day for $792.

• Approved the purchase of a new water softener system from Omega Water for $4,661.

• Approved hiring summer help for the road department.

• Approved payment to Cortland for four medic assists in January for $1,690.

• Approved payment to Willies Auto Repair for police cruisers work for $1,037.

• Approved payment to Cortland Police Department for three MARCS radios for $2,250.

• Approved payment to Trumbull County 911 for fire and police dispatching for January to March for $1,715.

• Approved payment to VITIS Technologies for three-year antivirus software for $900.

• Approved payment to Lifeforce Management for December and January ambulance billing for $2,001.
