Columbus man accused in theft at Liberty Walmart
Staff report
LIBERTY — A Columbus man accused in a March 18 theft made his appearance in court Monday.
Vandy Bryant, 23, pleaded not guilty to a theft charge in Girard Municipal Court.
According to a police report, an officer watched a vehicle traveling “well over” Fifth Avenue’s posted speed of 25 mph.
The officer noted that he recognized the vehicle from an investigation he was conducting because it was used to escape Walmart following an incident.
Upon pulling the vehicle over, the officer immediately recognized the driver as Bryant. The report states Bryant told the officer he did not have a valid driver’s license.
The officer ran Bryant’s information through LEADS, where he discovered he had a suspended driver’s license with a non-compliant suspension listed. Bryant also had two active warrants, including one through the Medina County Ohio State Highway Patrol for traffic offenses, according to the report.
Bryant was released on bond and is set to appear back in court April 15, court records show.
