Area residents, businesses deal with power outages

Heavy winds Friday and again Sunday caused many residents and some businesses in the Mahoning Valley to be without power for several hours after trees and power lines were knocked over.

FirstEnergy reported this weekend numerous power outages in parts of Trumbull and Mahoning counties starting Friday evening and Saturday morning with most power restored.

The FirstEnergy outage map still showed some outages Sunday evening as strong winds returned Sunday afternoon,

The Southington Fire Department social media site reported responding to weather related calls starting late Friday. A section of Warren Burton Road was closed between Route 422 and Barclay Messerly Road because of wires and poles being knocked down.

A Trumbull County 911 spokesman said they received calls of fallen trees and downed wires in different parts of the county. A section of Tibbets Wick Road in Weathersfield was closed late Friday because of wires down caused by a fallen tree.

In Canfield, power was out along a section of Leffingwell Road near Racoon and Tippecanoe roads Friday after a pine tree fell on powerlines.

There were reports of trees that had fallen across roads and on houses and garages in both counties.

The Boardman Library closed Saturday because of a power outage.

The Speedway gas station at East Market Street and North Road in Warren was closed Sunday because of a power outage.
