WARREN — A city man has been charged with felonious assault after a standoff Friday with police, who were dispatched to his Linden Avenue SE home after at least one shot was fired at a vehicle in the area.
Tony A. Walton, 169 Linden Ave., was arrested and charged with the second-degree felony in Warren Municipal Court.
Walton and a woman were eventually removed from the residence after a nearly six-hour standoff with Warren police officers, Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office deputies and a SWAT unit.
A heavy police presence was reported in the area of Linden Avenue and East Market Street, with the roads closed after officers arrived on the scene.
A person in the home reportedly fired a weapon around 8 a.m. after police went to the home to serve a warrant and authorities spent nearly six hours trying to get the subject to surrender and leave the residence. The standoff ended at approximately 1:50 p.m.
A Tribune Chronicle reporter and photographer were on the scene, where officers set up a perimeter and taped off the residence as the standoff continued. Officers could be heard speaking to someone in the house, encouraging them to surrender and come out.
