Two men plead guilty in separate cases

WARREN — Two men pleaded guilty Thursday to felonies in separate cases, with one being sentenced to more than three years in prison.

Jason E. Mechling, 46, of South Canal Street, Newton Falls, pleaded guilty before Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Ronald Rice to a second-degree felony charge of robbery and was sentenced to an indefinite three-to-four-and-a-half-year prison term. The case involved a Nov. 2, 2024, incident at a Trumbull County group home, where Mechling threatened other residents with a screwdriver and a knife, and stole a television, canned food and other items.

Also Thursday, Timothy Turner, 48, of Burnett East Road SW, Warren, pleaded guilty to one count of illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material or performance and four counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor, all second-degree felonies. The case involved a cyber tip about child sex abuse material on Turner’s electronic devices in August of 2024. The Cuyahoga County Task Force on internet crimes against children investigated the case.

After pleading guilty, Turner’s bond was revoked and he will be in Trumbull County jail, where probation officers will conduct a background investigation prior to sentencing. At sentencing, Turner will be declared a Tier 2 sexual offender required to register with the sheriff’s office twice per year for 25 years.
