Kinsman approves agreement with Johnston for EMS
KINSMAN — Township trustees approved a new one-year agreement with neighboring Johnston for emergency medical services from its fire department at the same price as last year.
Trustees approved the agreement for $102,173 for Johnston to provide EMS to Kinsman.
Officials said the cost is based on what is generated from Kinsman’s 2-mill fire levies.
This year, Kinsman has had 182 EMS calls.
Trustee Greg Leonhard said the agreement allows Johnston to use a Kinsman ambulance or have it stationed in Johnston as needed.
Officials said Johnston has hired a new ambulance billing service to collect more billing than a previous company.
Johnston also has contracts to provide EMS to Gustavus, Vernon and part of Greene.
2025 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Trustees reviewed projects completed this year, including a variety of items at the green space property south of the Kinsman Library.
Leonhard said the green space had new sidewalks, trees that were donated and planted, and benches.
Trustee Chairman Jamin Banning said the fire department had work done on part of the building to create a large bay area for the police department to house vehicles.
Fire Chief Tyler Elser said the work is complete, and the police cruisers can be placed there in January. He said a back room was changed into the bay area, which can hold up to four cruisers.
The Kinsman Volunteer Fire Association had spent $3,881 on plans for a new building for the police vehicles, but since it did not happen, the trustees approved reimbursing the amount.
There was also a new generator at the township administration building, said trustee Bruce Bancroft.
Leonhard said trustees will continue to seek assistance from state officials in addressing flooding in the township, including Yoder and Elm streets. Heavy rainfall this year caused major flooding in those areas.
The trustees are seeking applicants for the fiscal officer position, with Marge Crupi stepping down in May.
The deadline for those interested will be the first meeting in January.
Two applications have been received.
