Duo accused of stealing more than $1,000 in merchandise

LIBERTY — A warrant was issued for a Campbell woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise from a grocery store, while a Youngstown man made a court appearance for the same case.

Anthony Ranalli, 40, appeared in Girard Municipal Court on a felony theft charge Friday. He is being held at the Trumbull County jail on a $5,000 bond.

A warrant was issued for Kalia Rivers-Solomon, 25.

According to the police report, Liberty officers on patrol were called to the Belmont Avenue Giant Eagle for a theft in progress. Dispatchers said a man and a woman had attempted to push a large amount of merchandise out of the store and were running into the woods south of it.

The total dollar amount of the merchandise — which included food, hygiene products and other items — was $1,039, making it a felony offense.

The report states that while the woman entered a vehicle and fled the scene, the man walked down a hill into the woods and into a drainage culvert, crossing under Belmont Avenue and into a parking lot across the street.

The parking lot’s owner, who provided the lot’s surveillance footage, determined that his brother had picked the man up and driven off, according to the report, explaining that the man was “sketchy,” so he dropped him off at the Subway next door.

Officers eventually located the man at a Dunkin’ Donuts. He entered the store even after seeing the marked police cars, the report states. He was taken into custody and later identified as Ranalli after Giant Eagle employees confirmed him as the suspect.

Further investigation revealed the other suspect to be Solomon, and officers reported Ranalli had active warrants for his arrest in LEADS.

The report states Ranalli began faking an overdose as officers started transporting him, hampering and delaying them. The Liberty Fire Department transported him to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he was monitored and released to the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, who transported him to jail.

Ranalli is set to appear back in court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday, court records show.

Starting at $3.23/week.
