WHAT: Board of education meeting Nov. 17
PRESENT: Ronda Bonekovic, Sarah Kurpe, Derek Mihalcin, Jerry Necastro and Melissa Sydlowski
The board:
• Accepted the following donations: “Little Ladies” bags for the district’s pantry from the GFWC Junior Cyberlinks Club; $500 for the pantry from an anonymous donor; bath soap to the pantry from Jean Stolar; a steel plate for the Maker Space’s plasma arc cutter from Kirila Fire; items for awards and student projects for the Maker Space from Gasser Chair; two boxes of gently used books for the Holly Jolly Fest from Sierra Barker; food for the district’s thanksgiving drive and water and hygiene items for the pantry from Ryan Logan and Ashley Buchanan; $1,400 for the Maker Space and $1,400 for the pantry from the Optimist Club of Brookfield; canned goods for the pantry and snacks for the food drive and office from the St. Thomas Women’s Group.
• Administered fresh oaths of office for board members Ronda Bonekovic, Derek Mihalcin and Jerry Necastro, who won reelection bids earlier this month.
• Approved a proposal between Julian & Grube and the district to audit its financial statements for the 2025 fiscal year, which ended June 30.
• Approved the disposal of three books from the school library.
• Approved a memorandum of understanding between the district and the Trumbull County Educational Service Center to collaborate and participate in the appointment of a business advisory council.
• Approved the continuing contract status request for Jacob Shaffer, math teacher, effective with the 2025-26 school year.
• Approved the continuing contract status request for Salim Sayers, school psychologist, effective with the 2025-26 school year.
• Approved an increase in pay for Alex Clark, who has reached the 60th day as a long-term substitute. Clark will be paid $201 per day, effective Nov. 11.
• Approved a one-year limited contract for Kimberly Reiter as a nurse assistant, at a rate of $21.85 an hour and 5.92 hours per day, effective Dec. 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
• Accepted the retirement resignation of Christopher Fahndrich, teacher, effective June 30, 2026. Fahndrich has been with the district for 31 years.
• Accepted the retirement resignation of Band Director Elza Wright, effective June 30, 2026. Wright has been with the district for 19 years.
• Accepted the resignation of long-term substitute Jessica Keeler, effective Dec. 5.
• Accepted the resignation of Dakota King, bus driver, effective Nov. 11.
• Approved the agreement and resignation of James Haywood, teacher.
• Approved bus driver Terry Fox’s unpaid leave request, effective Nov. 25.
