Liberty police search for items stolen from car

LIBERTY — Liberty police are on the lookout for a stolen weapon.

According to a Thursday police report, officers were dispatched to Sampson Road in reference to a theft from a vehicle, and while en route, were informed that a firearm was stolen from it.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim, who told officers that his vehicle was broken into. Officers noted the rear driver’s side window was broken, with shards of glass on the driveway and inside the vehicle. They also noted attempted pry marks on the front driver’s door window, which was damaged, but not broken.

The report states the victim opened the driver’s side door, and officers noticed an empty firearm holder, which was between the front seat and the center console. The report states the gun stolen was a Smith and Wesson M&P 40. Caliber semi-automatic handgun.

According to the report, the victim showed officers video footage of the incident, which showed two people approaching the vehicle around 2 a.m. and peering into the vehicle’s driver’s side window.

A second video showed the suspects enter the vehicle through the damaged window, and the report states the suspects appeared to be male and wearing large jackets. The report states one of the suspects’ jackets appeared to have a “logo or the letter ‘C’ on the right pectoral area.”

Trumbull County 911 was provided a copy of the report, the firearm was entered into LEADS as stolen, and the victim was advised to contact the police department if anything else was found missing.
