WHAT: Township trustees meeting Tuesday

PRESENT: Mike Hovis, Mike Morelli and Bob McBride

Trustees:

• Accepted the 2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant award of $47,610 for the purchase of turnout gear to replace outdated gear. The fire department is responsible for paying a local share of $2,267.

• Announced new play units and equipment have been installed at Imagination Station at the park, with a dedication planned for the spring. The equipment is from Snyder Recreation.

• Reported the McCleary Jacoby Road street resurfacing was completed, with striping to be done next. The $325,000 project was covered by a $225,000 Ohio Public Works Commission grant and $100,000 American Rescue Plan funds from the county commissioners.

• Reported that because the county auditor failed to deposit tax money, the township has incurred $14,851 in legal fees and numerous administrative hours looking into and responding to public records requests and other inquiries.

• Accepted the software agreement between the fire department and Life Safety Inspection Vault LLC for storage and uploading of fire protection system reports, which is a free service for the fire department.

• Announced the police department will participate in DEA National Take Back Day for prescription drug disposal, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the police station, 2671 McCleary Jacoby Road.

• Approved replacing damaged electrical wiring at the township park.

• Announced the Christmas tree lighting will be 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 29 at the park and a chili cookoff fundraiser 4 to 7 p.m. Jan. 11 at Country Porch Winery.

Cortland

WHAT: City council meeting Monday

PRESENT: Kevin Piros, Don Moore, Jim Bradley, Kathy Fleischer, Richard McClain, John Picuri, Scott Rowley and Mayor Deidre Petrosky

Council:

• Heard from Petrosky the Trumbull County Land Bank will handle getting the demolition bids to take down the former Lakeview Elementary School that the city purchased. She said a remediation assessment is being done this week at the building.

• Approved a zone change request for Walnut Resources LLC for a replat of a lot from service district to residential district.

McDonald

WHAT: Board of Education meeting Oct. 15

PRESENT: Nick Gallo, Jessica Krumpak, Donna Shields, Kristina Merola and Mike Morris

The board:

• Heard from high school principal Meghan Watson and elementary principal Eric Jones, who talked about the state report cards and the school district achieving a rating of four stars. They discussed areas of the report card and plans for continued success in various areas for students and staff.

• Accepted the resignation of Chelsey Palmer, school nurse, effective Nov. 11. The district is looking for a new nurse.

• Approved teacher Danielle Ronghi as instructor for the ACT boot camp on Nov. 15.

• Approved a contract with Community Behavior Consulting LLC at $93,600.
