Liberty to begin accepting debit and credit cards

LIBERTY — Residents with outstanding bills and fees to the township will no longer need to worry about bringing cash, according to a resolution.

Trustees at Monday’s meeting approved accepting payments via debit and credit cards, effective at the “earliest time allowed by law”, according to the resolution.

The resolution authorizes the township’s fiscal office and police department to accept such payments for zoning fees, cemetery purchases, police department fees and public records — as well as any other expenses through the township.

Any payments via debit and credit card will be subject to a 4% fee, and any returned or dishonored payments will result in an additional $25 fee, as well as any legal fees incurred by the township for collecting the returned or dishonored payment.

The resolution was made with the belief that accepting electronic payments would increase the efficiency of township operations and benefit its residents.

Starting at $3.23/week.
