KINSMAN -- Township Fiscal Officer Marge Crupi informed trustees Monday of her plan to retire as trustees begin to search for a replacement.
Crupi, who has served since 2014, said she would be available to work with and train the selected fiscal officer to help that person become familiarized with the duties and responsibilities of the position.
"Kinsman is an awesome township. I have enjoyed working here," Crupi said.
Trustee Chairman Jamin Banning said they will accept applicants through Oct. 15 and then schedule interviews. Trustee Greg Leonhard said they would like to have someone selected in November so they can begin learning the job.
Crupi said fiscal officer terms begin in April, but the individuals are elected in the previous November general election.
Crupi said she was hired as a part-time fiscal officer to fill an unexpired term and then ran in the next election.
Leonhard said the person selected as the new fiscal officer would need to run in the November 2027 general election to serve a new term that begins in April 2028.
In other business, Leonhard said he is waiting for a call from State Rep. David Joyce's office to set a meeting to discuss ongoing flooding issues in parts of the township such as Yoder and Elm streets, Kinsman Nickerson Road and Main Street.
Some areas of the township have had major flooding this year, mostly when there is moderate to heavy rainstorms. Leonhard said he sent a map to Joyce's office showing the locations where the most flooding problems have occurred.
Leonard said he was seeing what assistance is available from the state for flood mitigation.
Also, trustee Bruce Bancroft said he spoke to a representative of the Ohio Department of Transportation, who said the intersection of Routes 5 and 7 does not warrant an additional stop sign or red flashing traffic signal however a new larger stop sign was added and a yellow sign with a black arrow on it was added.
The location has had several accidents. A truck crashed at the intersection this year almost hitting the Time Square restaurant and a nearby gas line.
There has been a stop sign on Route 5 when entering the intersection.
In other business, trustees:
• Announced the fire department is hosting its "Sound the Alarm" smoke detector program in partnership with the American Red Cross. Smoke detectors are available for residents at no cost. For information call the fire department at 330-876-3375.
• Reported plans are to hold a ceremony for the new lights and flagpole at the township greenspace.
• Reported a community event will be Oct. 4 at the green space with free hot dogs and drinks.
