WARREN -- A Trumbull County inmate convicted of rape has died in prison, according to the Trumbull County prosecutor's office.
The prosecutor's office said they were notified of John Hostetler's death, which occurred June 27 while he was incarcerated for crimes committed against a 9-year-old family member between 2012 and 2013.
Hostetler was convicted in 2020 on three counts of rape and one count of gross sexual imposition in a case overseen by former Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge W. Wyatt McKay.
The crimes were reported in 2020 and investigated by Trumbull County Children's Services and the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office.
Assistant Prosecutor Diane Barber of the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office Child Assault Prosecution Unit handled the case. No further details about the cause of Hostetler's death were immediately available.
