KINSMAN -- Township trustees are planning to host a meeting with residents to discuss ongoing flooding problems in parts of the community.
Trustee Greg Leonhard said at Monday's meeting that he has been in contact with State Rep. David Joyce's office for any assistance from the state over flooding issues. Leonhard said there have been significant issues with flooding during moderate to heavy rainfall.
He pointed out that the areas most affected include Yoder Street, Elm Street, Kinsman Nickerson Road and Main Street.
Leonhard noted that although flooding has been an issue for the past decade, it is becoming increasingly common with each rainfall in recent years.
"We understand there has been a lot of rain this year. Residents have had to deal with flooding more often. I believe there are multiple issues causing this," he said.
He noted that 10 to 12 residential properties have experienced significant problems.
Leonhard said the first step is to determine the causes of the flooding.
In other business, Trustee Bruce Bancroft said he has been trying to contact the Ohio Department of Transportation to discuss a study that needs to be done regarding traffic and speeding at the intersection of state Routes 5 and 7.
The location has had many accidents, including a truck recently almost crashing into the Times Square Restaurant and a nearby gas line.
Bancroft said officials want to see if a red flashing traffic signal could be placed there. There is now a stop sign on Route 5.
In other business, trustees:
• Heard from Fire Chief Tyler Elser that demolition work is being done at the fire station to prepare an area for bays for police to park cruisers.
• Announced new poles are up at the township green for lights to be installed, as well as a new flagpole. Bechtel Electric is doing the work.
• Reported that police are enforcing the new noise ordinance that prohibits loud noises late at night.
• Reported a complaint has been filed in Eastern District Court in Brookfield over overloaded logging trucks carrying logs to property on Ward Christy Road.
• Announced Small Business Saturday will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 30 at the township center. The event is taking place along Route 7 as part of Trumbull County's 60-mile yard sale.
