Falls school board and teachers union reach contract deal

NEWTON FALLS — The Newton Falls Board of Education and the Newton Falls Classroom Teachers Association have reached a new three-year agreement with the district’s teachers.

Superintendent Andreas Johansson said this year’s negotiations set a new precedent, with “both sides engaging in open, solution-focused discussions across several meetings throughout the spring and summer.”

Johannson said the new agreement includes substantial salary increases for teachers, along with greater clarity on key contractual language. Educators will receive a 4% salary increase this school year, followed by 3% in 2026 and another 3% in 2027.

“This was truly a groundbreaking process. Even during the busy summer months, both the district and NFCTA showed up ready to work together, with a shared commitment to do what’s best for our teachers and our students. The result is an agreement that rewards our educators for their dedication while ensuring clarity and consistency in our policies moving forward. This spirit of cooperation is inspiring, and I couldn’t be more excited about the future,” Johannson said.

Peggy Giuliano, president of NFCTA said “the negotiations were a testament to what can be accomplished when both sides approach the table with mutual respect and a focus on solutions.”

“Our teachers work tirelessly to support our students, and this agreement reflects the value they bring to our schools. We appreciate the district’s willingness to collaborate and look forward to continuing this strong working relationship in the years ahead,” Giuliano said.
