Mother and daughter’s homes shot at in Warren

Staff report

WARREN– A mother and daughter in Warren escaped unharmed after their homes were struck by gunfire in separate incidents early Sunday.

The Warren Police Department is investigating the shootings, which occurred around 2:40 a.m. on the city’s southwest side.

According to a Warren police report, a resident of First Street SW was alerted to the incident by a neighbor’s message at 2:50 a.m., asking if everyone was safe after hearing gunshots. Upon inspecting her property, the report said the woman discovered six bullet holes, one in the front screen door, two in the porch railing, two in the west outer wall near the garage, and one in the garage’s outer wall. A vehicle parked in her driveway also was hit, with a bullet damaging the grill and right headlight, where a projectile was found lodged but not removed to avoid further damage.

Police recovered seven 9mm and four .45 caliber cartridge cases at the scene, indicating multiple firearms were used, according to the report.

Concurrently, the woman said she was concerned when she couldn’t reach her daughter and sent a family member to check on her. In a separate report, her daughter’s home was found to have been struck at least three times by gunfire. The woman said she was unharmed and at church during the early morning hours, had not noticed the damage before leaving her residence.

The investigation is ongoing, with police analyzing the recovered cartridge cases and projectile for forensic evidence. No injuries were reported in either incident.
