Hannay donates $100,000 to Kilcawley campaign

YOUNGSTOWN — The descendant of four prominent Mahoning Valley families has contributed $100,000 to the Kilcawley: Centered on the Future Campaign, Youngstown State University announced Thursday in a news release.

In recognition of Roberta Hannay’s donation, the university said it will name Kilcawley’s new community kitchen / maker space in her honor. With her latest gift, Hannay has provided more than $1.8 million to YSU.

“Her investment in Kilcawley Center will help foster creativity, collaboration and community through a vibrant new space designed to bring students together in meaningful ways,” YSU President Bill Johnson said.

A descendant of the Wick, Clegg, Marsteller and Pollock families, her latest gift adds to Hannay’s legacy of philanthropy at YSU. The majority of her giving began in 1994 with her support toward the New Beginning for Academics, known today as the Academic Achievers Program — an initiative designed to uplift and empower students through access to enhanced academic support and mentorship.

Her grandparents, Porter and Mary Pollock, donated the historic Pollock House to YSU in 1949.

“Bobbie’s philanthropy has touched every corner of our campus, and her impact on student success cannot be overstated,” said Scott Schulick, chair of the Kilcawley campaign.

Beyond YSU, Hannay supports organizations such as the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County, Mahoning Valley Sojourn To The Past and Youngstown Cityscape, among many others.

Starting at $3.23/week.
