Rural King nears completion at Trumbull Plaza

WARREN — The former Kmart at Trumbull Plaza on Parkman Road is weeks away from reopening as a Rural King, with exterior work nearing completion and the parking lot repaving expected to finish by week’s end.

The farm and home supply retailer could open its doors in approximately one month, company officials said. Rural King, a farm and home supply retailer, will serve as the plaza’s new anchor tenant.

The store is projected to bring 64 jobs to the area, including 22 full-time positions such as department leaders, mechanics and cashiers. A hiring event is scheduled for next week.

The retailer owns the entire Trumbull Plaza, which it purchased for $1.8 million in 2018.

The opening is expected to boost the local job market and could attract additional businesses to the plaza.

Councilman Ron White, D-7th Ward, said the store aims to revive a once-popular shopping district.

“Rural King will look to open in the coming months, bringing life back to this community,” White said.

Site work is underway, with Miller-Yount Paving Inc. milling and resurfacing portions of the parking lot. David Grayson, owner of the paving company, said crews were hired to remove two inches of asphalt and repave the area in front of Rural King.

The retailer also has requested a quote to potentially repave the entire plaza parking lot, though no decision has been made.

The Warren location is part of Rural King’s plan to open 15 new stores nationwide over the next year, creating hundreds of jobs.

Starting at $2.99/week.
