Girard Board of Education
WHAT: Board meeting Wednesday.
PRESENT: Vincent Ragozine, Joe Castor, Joseph Datchuk, Sue Ellen Harris-Davis and Tammy King.
The board:
• Approved a receipt to the district’s unclaimed money fund totalling $648, consisting of checks over 90 days old but less than five years old, per a bulletin from the Ohio Auditor of State.
• Approved the following donations: $200 from Margaret Home and Joe and Maria Jeswald to Robotics; $200 from the Oliva family and $50 from Dave and Becky Collins to the Salvatore Ponzio III Memorial Fund; and $250 from Anthony and Irene Mehle to the Dr. Anthony Mehle Science Award in Memory of Herbert L. Cramer.
• Heard from Board President Vincent Ragozine that the high school’s drama club was bringing their rendition of The Addams Family to the cafetorium April 4 to April 6 and encouraged residents to attend. Board member Sue Ellen Harris-Davis said the show was originally supposed to run prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, and students who were freshmen then are seniors now, choosing the show as a “salute” to the seniors who lost the chance to perform.
• Approved unpaid time off for Martha Evans, one-on-one educational aide from March 24 to March 28.
• Approved unpaid time off for instructional aide Ashley Siminuch from Feb. 28 to April 7.
• Approved Karen Thomas as district-wide classroom and building support personnel for $15.60 per hour on an as-needed basis for the 2024-25 school year.
• Approved family medical leave for custodial grounds member Ada Drvodelic starting March 25.
• Approved family medical leave for custodial grounds member Dorenda Miller starting March 26.
• Approved family medical leave for Girard Immediate School principal William Bogan starting May 12.
• Approved family medical leave for medical aide Ashley Mammone starting March 4.
• Approved family medical leave for teacher Erin Loomis starting March 24, as well as her resignation effective May 23.
• Approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the district and the Girard Education Association.
• Accepted Brielle Floravito’s resignation and authorized Superintendent Bryan O’Hara to execute the resignation agreement.
• Approved granting Mark D’Eramo and Jaron Chambers one-year contracts as assistant boys track coach and volunteer junior high girls track coach.
• Approved Lauren Pallone as a substitute custodian for the 2024-25 school year for $11.25 per hour.

Braceville
WHAT: Township trustees meeting March 4.
PRESENT: Jeff Tucker, Dennis Kuchta and Todd Garland.
Trustees:
• Heard from Trumbull County Emergency Management Director John Hickey, who recognized Tucker for his years of service on the EMA board. Tucker reached his term limit of serving.
• Accepted the resignation of Jamey Hoffmann from the police department.
• Heard from residents of the poor condition of the gravel portion of Hewitt Gifford Road. Trustees plan to speak to Newton trustees of what can be done to improve the condition since the road runs through both townships.
• Heard from resident Terry Shavers about seeking a grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for a pedestrian trail from state Route 5 to Church Street.
• Are waiting for a response from Newton Falls village officials regarding annexation talks on the Dunkin’ Donuts, which is located in Braceville.
• Set spring cleanup 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 3 at the former Braceville High School. There will be a tire collection and collection of old prescription containers and drugs.
