Lakeview names Armstrong new treasurer

CORTLAND — The Lakeview Local School District has a new treasurer and he is a familiar face around the area.

Terry Armstrong, who attended Tuesday’s board of education meeting, said he has lived in Trumbull County his entire life and wanted to return there.

He previously served as treasurer for Boardman and Newton Falls schools and has spent the past two years at the Cardinal Local School District in Middlefield, which is in Geauga County. In addition to being a treasurer, Armstrong also has served as superintendent and principal at Lordstown Local Schools and as a government and history teacher for several local school districts, including LaBrae, Lordstown, Trumbull Career and Technical Center, Windham and Warren John F. Kennedy High School.

Armstrong said he plans to make the job in Lakeview his last, with plans to work another 10 to 12 years there.

“Lakeview schools have a great reputation. I did my student teaching in history and government in Lakeview and wanted to come back to Trumbull County,” he said.

Armstrong said he thanked the board and Superintendent Ashley Handrych for providing him the opportunity to return to Trumbull County as a treasurer.

Handrych said she looks forward to working with Armstrong.

“I like the experience he has as a treasurer that he brings to the district. I feel he will be a great fit for Lakeview. I am excited to work with him,” she said.

Armstrong was granted a three-year contract effective Aug. 1 through July 31, 2028, at approximately $106,000.

Armstrong replaces Sean Miller, who left Lakeview schools last summer to become treasurer for Niles when Rhonda Amorganos retired in July from that district. Ryan Pendleton has been serving as interim Lakeview treasurer through the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio.

Starting at $3.23/week.
