WARREN — A Greenville man has pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including aggravated vehicular assault, in connection with a July 2024 crash that injured three people and led to a confrontation with an off-duty sheriff’s deputy.
Joshua A. Butler, 35, entered the plea on charges of aggravated vehicular assault, failure to stop after an accident, operating a vehicle under the influence, assault and possession of a fentanyl-related compound.
The charges stem from a July 21, 2024, incident in which Butler lost control of his vehicle on state Route 7 in Trumbull County, causing it to flip and injure three passengers.
Prosecutors said Butler fled the scene but was later confronted by an off-duty sheriff’s deputy, whom he assaulted. The plea agreement, which avoids a trial originally set to begin March 17, includes a recommended prison sentence of five to seven-and-a-half years.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 25.
As part of the plea deal, the judge has requested the prosecution calculate the exact amount of restitution Butler will be required to pay. Butler remains in custody in the Trumbull County Jail pending sentencing.
