TCTC to open equestrian building for public viewing
CHAMPION — Those attending the parent-teacher conferences Thursday at Trumbull Career and Technical Center or the center’s board meeting that evening will have the opportunity to see the new equestrian center building.
TCTC Program Supervisor Anina Karlovic, who oversees industry and trade programs, said work has been ongoing at the center, which is located east of the main school complex.
She said over winter break, a lot of work was done, including fire inspections of the building, exterior lighting and fencing. The horses have been moved into the new building as well.
Karlovic said TCTC was waiting for the final occupancy permits to move the equestrian program classrooms into the building. The official ribbon cutting is April 24 and the first major horse show at the new building is April 26.
The former barn was demolished last spring before construction could begin on the new $2 million equine building. The new equestrian center / barn has 12 horse stalls, offices, classrooms, a riding area, hot and cold water, and restrooms. The current riding arena will be attached to the new building, which will be handicapped accessible.
“Everything will be under one roof,” Karlovic said.
While the demolition and construction work was being done, horses were moved into temporary stalls in the indoor arena. Karlovic said the goal is to have the new building completed and in operation later this school year.
SECOND PROJECT
Superintendent Jason Gray said the DeSalvo Construction Company is the construction manager for the new addition on the southeast side of the career center for additional industrial engineering and technology programs. The 13,800-square foot addition to the center is for an industrial technology and STEAM building.
The district acquired $5.1 million from the Appalachian Community Innovation Centers grant program for the new addition, which is expected to be completed by summer 2026.
“We are excited to be getting this and to be able to work with the Ohio School Facilities Commission on this project,” Gray said.
The two programs will be located inside the newly built area on the east side of the building near the wood trades and carpentry program.
