Masury man indicted on attempted murder charge
WARREN — A Trumbull County grand jury handed up 43 indictments this week, including a man from Masury charged with attempted murder stemming from an Aug. 30 case in Weathersfield.
Michael S. Houser, 31, of North Stateline Road, was indicted on charges of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault, both with repeat violent offender specifications.
According to a police report, officers were called early Dec. 11 to the 2800 block of Covington Avenue by U.S. marshals who found Houser — who was wanted on a warrant for attempted murder — sleeping in a van on the property, which they had been monitoring for several weeks. Also sleeping in the driver’s seat was Shawna Simpson, who was arrested on a warrant for felonious assault stemming from the same Aug. 30 incident.
In that incident at 2200 N. Glenwood Ave., police were told by a group of people that while they were on the trails in Honda Hills, which is behind the McKinley Lanes bowling alley, two of them were assaulted by Houser and Simpson, according to a police report. One of the victims was involved in an altercation with Houser the previous day when Houser was accused of assaulting the man and stealing items from his vehicle.
In the Aug. 30 incident, the man asked Houser where his stuff was, which led to a physical altercation, the police report states. The man told police he felt his neck being cut with a sharp object. Police noted in the report the victim had two cuts on his throat and one large cut on the back of his neck.
The other people in the group told police Houser was holding the second victim on the ground while Simpson was hitting him with a metal pipe. The police report states both victims had serious head wounds and were bleeding heavily, and both were taken to the hospital.
Houser originally was charged with attempted murder, aggravated menacing, trespassing and felonious assault. He has been in the Trumbull County jail on a $750,000 bond since his Dec. 11 arrest, court records show. He will be arraigned Feb. 10 in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
Simpson, 34, of North Road in Niles, was indicted in October on two counts of felonious assault. She was released from jail after posting 10% of a $150,000 bond and is scheduled for trial May 5, court records show.
