One killed in Warren house fire
WARREN — One person was killed in a Tuesday morning house fire, authorities said.
According to fire Chief Ken Nussle, the fire at 1797 Bonnie Brae Avenue NE was reported at 7:09 a.m.
Firefighters arrived on the scene just three minutes later and immediately began suppression efforts while conducting a primary search of the home.
The structure, a 1.5-story Cape Cod-style house, was heavily damaged by the blaze, which was contained to the upstairs area. Firefighters discovered one occupant deceased on the upstairs bedroom floor.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending family notification.
Three adults were able to escape the fire unharmed, officials said. No injuries were reported among firefighters.
The damage estimate is approximately $25,000, according to fire officials. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Further details will be released as the investigation continues.
It was the second fire fatality in the area this week.
A 5-year-old boy, Amir Harrison, was killed in a 7 a.m. Sunday fire on North Maryland Avenue in Youngstown. Fire investigators said the cause is still under investigation, but it is believed a space heater being used to heat the entire home is to blame. The boy’s mother was taken to the hospital for injuries she suffered jumping from a second-floor porch. Five of the boy’s siblings made it out of the house safely, but firefighters found Amir in a closet about 10 minutes after arriving on scene. They think he was hiding there.
The house is uninhabitable and the Red Cross is assisting the family with relocation and needed items.
