YOUNGSTOWN -- It was a busy morning for Mahoning and Trumbull County police departments, as they arrested two men believed to be responsible for a series of armed robberies Friday morning.
Police identified Shane Adams, 33, of Austintown, and Tylin Fairchild, 31, of Youngstown, as suspects in Austintown, Canfield and Liberty robberies.
According to a Canfield Police Department report, an officer reviewing the active county calls at the start of his shift noticed a Shell gas station in Austintown being robbed, and started heading toward Canfield's Shell station
The report states that while en route, he noticed a slender man wearing dark clothing sprinting from the gas station and toward an old Perkins restaurant, where a Chevrolet Trailblazer was parked. An off-duty officer confirmed the gas station was robbed. The officer called for backup, and was later joined by several Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers.
The report states that the officer initiated a traffic stop with the SUV. It only stopped momentarily and a 50-60 mph chase ensued, with the Trailblazer running a red light and passing another vehicle and ODOT salt truck.
According to a Youngstown Police Department report, officers were told to meet up with state highway patrol troopers near East Pasadena Avenue around 7 a.m. to look for a black 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer believed to be connected to four robberies across Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
The Youngstown report states officers found the SUV at the intersection of Powersdale and Cameron avenues on the South Side, where state troopers told the officer they had one of the men in custody at Cooper and Union streets.
The Canfield police report states that the officer found Fairchild, who the SUV was registered to, in the back of an ambulance. Adams was also in custody and transported back to Canfield's police department.
Adams was booked into their system, but afterward began to state he was experiencing a shortness of breath.
An ambulance transported him to St. Elizabeth Hospital, although the report did not specify which one. Liberty police also identified the pair as suspects in an armed robbery at a Papa John's Pizza on Belmont Avenue Thursday night.
Fairchild is facing a complicity charge, while Adams is charged with robbery and possessing criminal tools in Canfield Area Court. Fairchild remained at the Mahoning County jail Friday evening and likely will be arraigned Monday.
Adams had not been booked into jail as of Friday evening.
