WHAT: Board of education meeting Monday.
PRESENT: Julie Altawil, Ken Jones, Wendy Miller, Jeff Pegg and Brianne Perry.
The board:
• Approved policy update on distribution of materials in schools. Treasurer Julie Sloan said the revision was "district personnel are prohibited from using district time or resources to distribute materials that support or oppose a levy or bond issue."
• Reported an outside agency has been secured through a community group to conduct a feasibility study on a possible fine and performing arts center by the high school. The results of the study are expected in January.
• Accepted the retirement / resignation of Tina DeLucia, technology teacher at Howland Intermediate School, effective May 31. She has been an employee since 1990.
• Accepted the retirement / resignation of Kimberly Murray, elementary teacher at Howland Glen Primary School, effective May 31. She has been an employee since 1996.
• Approved Susan Fleming from fiscal specialist payroll to secretary to the treasurer effective Jan. 1 and Stacey Capaldi to fiscal specialist payroll effective Jan. 7.
• Approved the 2025-26 school calendar with the first day for students Sept. 2 and last day May 28, 2026.
• Approved Matt Zakrajsek, varsity wrestling coach, to be paid $4,592 for time serving with the girls' wrestling high school program.
• Received a $620 donation from Howland Tiger Booster Club to pay for slag for the cross-country track at Howland Park.
• Set the organizational meeting for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at the administration office.
