WHAT: Township trustees meeting Monday.
PRESENT: Rex Fee, Doug Emerine and Rick York.
Trustees:
• Received a letter from the Champion Historical Society asking that township file cabinets stored at the one-room schoolhouse by the cemetery be removed.
• Said they are still in talks over a possible post office site at the township hall, which has available space.
• Announced the second annual Christmas tree lighting and cookies with Santa will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the township administration building in partnership with Champion Rotary.
• Approved $2,814 in yearly dues for Trumbull County Emergency Management Agency.
• Appointed Cyndy Thomas to the zoning appeals board to fill a vacancy.
• Heard from police Chief Larry Skaggs police will take children shopping for the holidays Dec. 14 at Walmart and also provide food for families for Christmas dinner.
• Heard from Road Supervisor Shawn Davis the cemetery office has been moved to the former zoning office by the road department.
• Heard from fire Chief Tom Dempsey the fire department is expected to have a record number of calls in 2024, with 2,508 as of the end of November with the 2023 total at 2,517, which was the previous record. He said he expects to see an 18% increase in calls.
• Heard from Dempsey that he is applying for a grant for MARCs radios and pagers.
