SOUTHINGTON -- A Southington Volunteer Fire Department engine was hit by a motorist early Sunday morning on U.S. Route 422
According to the fire department's social media site, the fire crew was at a scene on Route 422 providing protection. No one was injured in the accident, but the truck has been taken out of service until it can be inspected.
Officials stated in the post that firetrucks are used to protect scenes on roads to make sure no one is struck, injured or killed. The crash investigation is being handled by the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office.
